Ezpass placement?

Got my new ezpass in the mail and saw there was a caveat for Wranglers (picture attached). Sounds like they used to have a hard time reading them in the standard behind the mirror. Is it still a problem? Where do you guys put it?

On my JK I had to leave it sitting on the dash. On my JL I have a posted on the window where it normally would go and it reads just fine. So it kind of depends on what model Jeep you have

On my CJ, the windshield works fine.  In the HKU, it was hit or miss on the windshield, so we got a license plate mounted one and never had a problem again.

On my JL before the windshield replacement I had it behind the mirror and it worked perfect. Since my windshield replacement I just throw it on the dash when needed and it also works fine

Mine is in the windshield and haven't had any problems. But I'm also pretty sure that as long as you have it registered to your license plates, the tag readers search for your plates and hit your pass for the toll before mailing you the bill. I registered mine to my JKU and my wife's car and l got caught without the transponder on a trip that google sent me down about 40 toll legs and they all just hit my pass balance for the actual amounts, no fines.

I thought this, but on my JKU I got hit with a bunch of fees.  Luckily when I called they were nice and waived them, but said they would not do it next time.  I have also added my credit card to refresh when the balance gets low, but if you have three people (and switch to HOV) and it does not read, you dont want to get charged.

In My TJ's an IH Scouts, the EZ-pass would never seem to work in the recommended spot, but that puts them right on the edge of the window frame in both. In my JKs it's been hit or miss, But they always seem to work sitting on the Dash, so that's where I've been running them, In the Gladiator, it seems to work fine in the recommended spot, so I'd expect the same on a JL.

Also, not sure if they even have any physical gates anymore, but it is a real PITA to have the gate not open because it did not read.  And then wait for a person to come over.  And being behind that person is irritating as well.

Do they have a license plate mounted HOV3 ezpass?  That would suck if they didn't going into town with 3 people in the car!

Good point.  Not that I am aware of.  How would you flip the switch?  Assuming they still have those.  Can you tell I have not commuted in over 18 months?

Few years ago when I was having this issue, they did not have an HOV one for the bumper. That was my biggest complaint and what I kept trying to explain to them. Because I was commuting at the time.

So it sounds like from all of this it should be good to mount on the window for my JLU. Though with all this talk of inevitable windshield replacement, sounds like a matter of time before it's back on the dash..

As an aside, anybody have a dash cam? For my previous car I had been thinking of putting one in but never did. I'm thinking about it again, and am wondering if it and the ezpass would be fighting for the same spot if it's on the window.

Apeman makes a good camera for pretty cheap. I have the two camera version in the jeep and the two camera/OBD version in wife's car. Amazon got them here quick and they are easy to use and set up
